Is fake fur recyclable ?
Yes. Fake fur is part of a circular industry. Your coat can be recycled into a new material to create a new piece. You can also donate it to an association and give it a second life.
Does fake fur pollute more than real fur?
No. Fake fur has a very low impact on the environment for several reasons:
⁃ It represents only 0.001% of the textile industry...
⁃ It has much less impact than natural materials such as wool and cotton for example.
⁃ A mink coat has 4 to 7 times the impact of a faux fur coat. The production of a single piece of mink has a carbon footprint of 28Kg which is equivalent to the CO2 produced by a human over 3 days.
Are synthetic fibres released when cleaning our La Seine & Moi coats?
No fibre is released since our faux fur coats are dry-cleaned to avoid damaging the hair. Nevertheless, if you have to wash a faux fur item it is recommended to use warm water so that the release of micro-fibre is non-existent. And if you machine wash it, you can use guppyfriend washing bags that filter the water from the machine so that no micro-particles are carried away.
Does fake fur take 1,000 years to decompose?
No. All the materials used in our La Seine & Moi coats are recyclable or recycled into new products. They are composed of either modacrylic (an expensive fiber of Japanese origin) and acrylic which can be transformed into a new source of energy. Or polyester, which is a 100% recyclable synthetic fiber.
Does fake fur kill fish ?
No. A faux fur coat is never thrown into the sea. Moreover, it is not recommended to machine wash them (dry cleaning only) so no fibres are found in the water.
The plastic that kills fish are the single-use packaging, bottles, plastic bags and garbage that end up in the sea.
Is real fur more natural than fake?
No. Designing a real fur coat requires a long and unnatural process. Starting with the intensive breeding of the animals in cages and deplorable conditions. Then the skins are tanned and dyed with chemicals that are harmful to human health and also to the environment. On the other hand, the concentration of chemicals prevents the animal fur from biodegrading.
